Biography   Rene Victor Auberjonois

René Auberjonois was born into a wealthy family of landowners, which allowed him to pursue his artistic inclinations without financial worries.  During a visit to England he took violin lessons and played with the idea to become a musician, but decided against it.  In 1895 he briefly studied at the Polytechnic in Dresden.  Then he went on to the Kensington School of Art in London.

In 1896 he settled in Paris, where he met the writer Charles Ferdinand Ramuz.  After living in Switzerland, he made a definitive move to Lausanne in 1914.  He gained his first recognition in the 1920's by buying from museums and public contracts.
