Biography Robert (Captain) Carter Oakley
Captain (later Lieutenant) Oakley arrived at St Helena in 1819 and left in 1822. During his time on the island he had direct contact with Napoleon and his household at Longwood. Oakley compiled a diary in which he refers to a version of the events surrounding the illness and death of Napoleon (5 May 1821) as stated to him by Dr Archibald Arnott.
