Biography Robert Chester Thomas
Robert Chester Thomas was born on April 19, 1924 in Wichita, Kansas. He served in the Air Force from 1943-46. Studied with David Green in Pasadena, CA from 1946-47 and with Ossip Zadkine in Paris from 1948-49. Earned a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1951 and a MFA from the California College of Arts & Crafts in 1952.
Taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara beginning in 1954. His work includes carved, welded, and bronze cast sculpture inspired by nature and by Greek mythology. In the 1960s he frequently used brilliant colors on his wood sculpture.
He died in 1987.
