Painter. Born in Washington, DC on Aug. 11, 1876. Fullonton was a member of an old and illustrious family with claims of royal pedigree from King David I of Scotland. About 1884 he moved to Paris with his mother. During his many years in Europe, he was educated at Oxford. He then studied at Harvard University (1905-09) and for awhile practiced civil engineering before turning to art. Fullonton was a resident of Los Angeles from 1911 and active in Old Lyme, CT in 1914-15. After visiting the FPIE, he set up a studio in Laguna Beach. He was a close friend and painting partner of Joseph Kleitsch whose portrait of him hangs in the Orange County Museum. One of southern California's finest painters, he died destitute and often sold his paintings fNearly 20,000 biographies can be found in Artists in California 1786-1940 by Edan Hughes and is available for sale ($150).
