Robert John Wickenden (1861 - 1931)
A painter, printmaker, draftsman, art dealer, educator and art historian, Robert John Wickenden was born (of American parents) in Rochester, Kent, England and died in Brooklyn, New York. Wickenden was a resident of England, the USA, France and Canada. He was also a tireless traveler between and within all four countries.
He wrote monographs on the artists of the Barbizon School* for periodicals, lectured frequently, exhibited widely, was a respected connoisseur, helped assemble famous art collections, and was an acquaintance of Van Gogh and Whistler.
