Born in Spokane, WA on May 28, 1910. Spray moved with his family to Oakland, CA in 1923. He began painting portraits as a student at McClymonds High School which led to a scholarship at the CCAC. During the 1930s he worked on the Federal Art Project. Following service in the Army during WWII, he settled in Tucson, AZ where he established a silk screen shop. Spray died there on March 2, 2000.
