Biography Robert Wylie
Genre painter and sculptor, Robert Wylie was an ex patriot American. He was one of the founding members of the artist's colony in Pont- Aven, France and was one of the first of the many post-Civil War American artists to become fascinated by the subject of peasantry. Many of his paintings depict Breton peasants and historical scenes about the history of Brittany. Peasants were attractive to Americans because they represented a stability, steadfastness and commitment to religion and family that had been lost to many Americans during the Civil War.
