Born in Cold Spring, MN on March 9, 1892 of German immigrants. In 1896 the Bold family settled in Oakland. Rose had been drawing as a child and took up painting after her marriage to artist Paul Schmitt in 1914. The subsequent raising of 13 children left little time for art; however, she often joined her husband on sketching trips throughout California. She signed her paintings "Rose E. Bold." Mrs. Schmitt died in Oakland on April 27, 1964. Member: Alameda AA.
