Monte Rosa was named after the first woman to ascend it, Rose Kingsley, daughter of the Rev. Charles Kingsley, Canon of Westminster, and author of noble "Hypatia," historic "Hereward," "Westward Ho" and lovable "Water Babies" with its lyric treasures. Miss Kingsley came to Colorado Springs in October 1871, the first year after its founding, following her brother Maurice, who was assistant treasurer of the Fountain Colony.
