Biography Ruth Van Sickle Ford
A painter of landscapes, portraits and still lifes and teacher active in Chicago and Aurora, Illinois during the early and mid 20th century, Ruth Ford was an instructor in life drawing and painting and director of the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts from 1937 to 1960. In 1964, she became a professor of painting at Aurora College in Aurora, Illinois. In 1961, she was the first woman member accepted into the Palette and Chisel Academy, an exclusive Chicago association of artists promoting education and exhibition.
Ford studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and at the Arts Student League in New York City. She also took special classes with George Bellows, John Carlson, Guy Wiggins and Jonas Lie. Memberships included the American Wate
