Biography Salathiel Ellis
As a medallic artist, Salathiel Ellis created allegorical bronze pieces including an Abraham Lincoln Indian Peace Medal in 1862, Cornelius Vanderbilt Medal, 1865; Franklin Pierce Indian Peace Medal, 1853 and 1857; Isaac Hopper Anti-Slavery Medal; and the Millard Fillmore Indian Peace Medal.
In their designs Ellis often had allegorical references such as a farmer and Indian standing with an American flag and with farming implements between them in the James Buchanan Indian Peace Medal of 1857. Inscribed were the words: Labor, Virtue, Honor.
