Biography Serge Ferat
Serge Férat, given name Sergei Nikolaevic Jastrebcov, was born in Moscow
in 1881. In 1900 he moved to Paris with his partner Helene von
Oettingen, where he studied at the Academie Julian. He quickly made the
acquaintance with the artists of the avant-garde, among his friends were
Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Alexander Archipenko,
Léopold Survage, Max Jacob, Ardengo Soffici and last but not least
Guillaume Apollinaire, who became a close friend and colleague. His work
was always devoted to cubism. From 1906 on he exhibited at the Salon
Indépendants and in 1935 at the Wildenstein Gallery within in the
exhibition ‘Les créateurs you cubisme’, to name only a few.
