Biography Shirlann Smith
Shirley April Ann "Shirlann" Smith was born on April 28, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas. Grew up in Whitewater, Kansas. Earned a BFA from Kansas State Univ. in 1951 majoring in radio. Lived in Kansas City in the early 1950s working for KCMO radio, doing some modeling, and industrial films. Moved to New York in 1953 where she continued her modeling career and took acting lessons and eventually acted on Broadway and on television. Smith studied art at the Provincetown Workshop Art School and the Art Students League. By 1970, she began painting full time. She began returning to Kansas in 1982 for a month or two each summer painting the Kansas landscape often populated by pigs, turkeys, chickens, cows, and her favor
