Biography Sidney Armer
Born in San Francisco, Sidney Armer became a specialist in watercolor illustrations of botanical subjects-California plants and flowers. He studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute and then with Arthur Mathews in San Francisco. He then worked as an artist at the Dickman-Jones Lithograph Company, where his reproduced works were sold a fine art prints and advertisement illustrations. In the 1920s, he did calendar illustrations for Schmidt Litho Company and label designs for Traung label and Lithograph Company.
He was married to artist and illustrator Laura Armer for whom he did illustrations of her writings, and they retired to Fortuna, California in Humboldt County, where he died on May 10, 1962.
