Primarily an educator in the Paterson, New Jersey school system, Sidney Probert spent much of his free time traveling and painting in an impressionist style.
Born on February 11, 1865 in Paterson, he received his education in the public schools of his hometown, then enrolling at New York University, graduating in 1888. After taking a post-graduate course at Columbia University, he was hired as a teacher by the Paterson school district, eventually becoming a principal.
His paintings were exhibited in New York and Philadelphia and Ye Old Books is hanging at the Danforth Memorial Library in Paterson. During World War I he sold and donated the proceeds of several of his best paintings to the Red Cross.
