Simmons Persons was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He studied at the Art Students League where he worked in the classes of Frank Vincent du Mond, George Bridgman and Kimon Nicolaides. During several summers he painted at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire. His watercolors have been exhibited in large group shows at the Whitney Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsyvlania Academy, and in the Virginia Museum at Richmond.
