Spencer Bancroft

Spencer T. Bancroft was active/lived in New York, Ohio.  Spencer Bancroft is known for itinerant portrait painting.

Spencer T. Bancroft   (1828-1857)

Spencer T. Bancroft was the eldest son of the eight children of New York farmer Nathan Bancroft and Hulda Storrs Turner Bancroft. In 1848 and again in 1851, he worked as an itinerant artist in Ashtabula, Ohio and Athens County, Ohio. In between he lived with his family in Orleans County, New York.

From Ohio, he traveled south to Kentucky.  He died in Lexington in 1857 after preparing a will. He was 29. He is buried in Boxwood Cemetery, Medina, Orleans County, New York.

Spencer Bancroft's work is owned by the Mead Art Museum, Amherst College; the Western Reserve, and the Lake County [Ohio] Historical Society.
