Stephen Beames was born in Multan, India on March 3, 1896 of English parents. Beames moved to Canada with his family when he was a boy. He studied at the Boston Museum School of Art, the Beaux Arts School in NYC, and the AIC. He taught at Rockford (IL) College until 1931 when he moved to Oakland, CA.
He briefly taught at the California College of Arts & Crafts (Oakland) before settling into a job as a bookkeeper. Beames also did portraits in pencil and charcoal. He died in Oakland on March 2, 1969.
