Biography Sylvia Daoust
One of the first female sculptors recognized for her artwork in Quebec,
Sylvia Daoust was born in Montreal. She is known for her
religious figures in bronze such as Mary Queen of the World at the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral in Montreal. Her career was marked by extensive travel worldwide.
She studied at theEcole des Beaux-Arts in Montreal from 1923 to 1928,
and was a teacher of wood and stone sculpting at the Ecole des
Beaux-Arts of Quebec from 1943 to 1968.
Among her recognitions are membership in the Royal Society of Canada,
the National Order of Quebec and the Allied Arts Medal and the Prix
