Tachihara Kyosho

Biography   Tachihara Kyosho

Kyosho, his real name: Tachihara Nin, nickname: Enkei and Jintaro, brushstrokes: Kyosho, Tyoken, Gyokusosha and Koanshoshi, is a Japanese painter of the eighteenth - nineteenth century. Born in 1785, he died in 1840.

Kyosho is a painter of the Nanga School (literary painting). Samurai from Clan Mito. He is a student of Tani Buncho and paints landscapes, flowers and birds. He is a friend of Kazan and Chinzan1. Like Tsubaki Chinzan and a whole host of painters, he was influenced by Kazan in trying to acclimatise to Japan the various tendencies of Western painting.
