Biography Thomas Adams
Traveling west in early 1853, he was a civil engineer and survey artist from Fort BEnton, Arkansas to St. Mary's Mission in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana with the Isaac Stevens railway survey expedition. He also became Stevens' temporary agent with the Flathead Indians, and after the survey party left in 1857, he stayed behind and did gold prospecting and mining.
He briefly married a Flathead woman, but when his son was born, he left her and kidnapped the child. However, the boy raised such a fuss over leaving his people that Adams returned him.
By 1866, Adams was farming in Maryland, and shortly after, moved to Washington DC. His birth and death dates do not appear to be recorded.
