Biography Thomas Millington
Thomas Charles Millington, the grandson of the painter William Hamilton and the son of John and Emily Hamilton Millington, was born January 29, 1816, in Hammersmith, England. John Millington, an engineer and professor, traveled with his family during his teaching career. In 1829 the Millington family left England for Mexico City, where they lived for three years. They then moved to Philadelphia in 1833 and in 1835, John Millington accepted a post at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Thomas Millington lived with his family in Williamsburg until 1846 when he moved to Philadelphia where he was an amateur musician and artist.
