Truman Howe Bartlett was born in Dorset, Vermont in 1835. He studied
under Robert Eberhard Launitz in New York City and later in Paris, Rome
and Perugia, Italy.
He spent twenty-two years as an instructor in the
architecture department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
while also operating a free art school for poor children.
