Biography Ulrich Ellerhusen
Emigrating to America in 1894, Ulrich Ellerhusen established a reputation for sculpture and monuments. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago* and the Art Students League* in New York, and teachers included Lorado Taft and Karl Bitter.
He was a teacher at the National Academy of Design* in New York City, and established the Ellerhusen School of Painting. As a medallic* artist for the Medallic Art Company, he created a medal inscribed to artist Gertrude Lathrop. It was an allegorical winged female seated in front of a rearing horse.
Ellerhusen lived in New York City and in Towaco, New Jersey.
