Biography   Velma Adams


Born on a ranch in Fruita, CO on April 4, 1902. Adams was a teenager when she settled in Los Angeles. She studied locally at the Otis Art Institute and continued in NYC at the ASL and Grand Central School of Art. She further studied with F. Tolles Chamberlin, George Biddle, Leo Katz, and with her close friend Julia B. Wendt. She was active in Los Angeles until the early 1960s and died there on Nov. 13, 1990. Most of her subject matter is Indian and western themes. Exh: Calif. Art Club, 1924-49 (awards); Nat'l Small Sculptures Contest, 1928 (award); LA County Fair, 1929; Bullock's (LA), 1933; Calif.
