Biography Velma Wynona Fees Fairchild
Born in Iowa but living in Nebraska most of her life, Velma Fairchild received statewide attention for a china-painting project completed with her daughter, Donna Gollehon in 1963 for a family in Minden. Velma also did two-dimensional painting including a watercolor of Pocahantas, which is in the collection of the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney.
She was born as Velma Fees, the youngest of four children of Dr. Arthur and Harriet Fees of Lenox, Iowa. In her early adult years, she was a ‘working girl’ with jobs including management of a ready-to-wear business and patterns designing for a decorative needlework company.
