Victor S. Holm (Danish/American, 1876-1935 )
Victor Holm was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1876. When he was fifteen, his father brought the family to the United States, where they settled in Chicago. Holm knew from an early age that he wanted to become an artist. While working odd jobs to make ends meet, he met Lorado Taft and was invited to live at his studio, working as his assistant while learning all he could from the promising young sculptor. During this formative time, Taft recommended him to assist Robert P. Bringhurst, professor of sculpture at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts with a large scale commission for a series of figures for an exposition in Omaha.
