Biography Virginia Granbery
Virginia Granbery was a painter of portraits and still life, also did
animal subjects and landscape views including the White Mountains in
New Hampshire. She lived in Manhattan but with her artist sister,
Henrietta Granbery (1829-1927) was a "significant figure in Brooklyn
art life. . . .an extremely able still-life specialist." (Gerdts 142) Both women were art educators.
Virginia was best known for her fruit still life painting and her sister for
Lithographer Louis A Prang of Boston reproduced more of Virginia's fruit
paintings than the paintings of any other artist of that era.
Very few of her original works have been found.
