Wallace Frances Hamilton

Wallace Frances Hamilton was active/lived in California, Indiana / Trinidad and Tobago.  Wallace Hamilton is known for newspaper artist, figure and genre sketches.

Biography   Wallace Frances Hamilton

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on Aug. 28, 1890, William Hamilton began drawing at age six and later studied at the Indianapolis Art Institute.

He was a resident of San Diego from 1914, with a studio in Balboa Park's Spanish Village. In the 1930s he was employed in the art departments of the San Diego Union and San Diego Tribune-Sun.

During WWII he worked in Trinidad in the West Indies for the Navy. While there he sketched many scenes of the natives. These sketches were finished in San Diego after the war with him using the birds at the local zoo as models.

Hamilton had a home in nearby La Jolla at 602 Kirkwood Place. He was found dead there on April 26, 1972.
