Biography Wallace MacMahon Mitchell
Wallace Mitchell, (Wallace MacMahon Mitchell), was born October 9, 1911, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended public schools in Detroit, and in 1930 enrolled in Olivet College, a small liberal arts college outside of Lansing, Michigan. Mitchell later transferred to Hamilton College, in Clinton, NY.
He received a BA from Northwestern University, Chicago in 1934, then spent a year studying at the Cranbrook Academy of Art*, under Zoltan Sepeshy. In 1936 Mitchell completed his MFA at Columbia University in New York.
Mitchell returned to Cranbrook Academy as a painting instructor from 1936 to 1954, and taught Arts and Crafts at Cranbrook from 1944 through 1947. He became an administrator at the Cranbrook Academy of Art from 194
