Biography Walter Midener
Born in Germany, Walter Midener settled in Detroit, Michigan where he became a noted sculptor and teacher. His preferred mediums were metal, wood, clay and bronze. From 1946 to 1966, he was head of the Sculpture Department of the Art School of the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit. Other teaching venues included the Center for Creative Studies at the College of Art and Design.
He studied at the Berlin Academy from 1932 to 1936 and earned an M.A. in 1950 at Wayne State University in Detroit. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy and at various shows in Michigan.
Midener's commissions include a portrait bust of Michigan Supreme Court Justice Butzel, a monument in Temple Bethel Memorial Park in Detroit, carved wood relief
