Biography Wilfred Stedman
A painter, sculptor, architect, illustrator, educator and commercial
artist, Wilfred Henry Stedman also had a wide-ranging career
geographically. He was born in England and moved to Canada with
his family when he was age fourteen. For five years, he was an
apprentice to a Winnipeg architect and attended St. Mary's
College. In 1914, he became a practicing architect in Wisconsin,
but shortly after re-focused his direction to fine-art painting.
Stedman enrolled at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and from 1916 to
1917, studied at the Art Students League in New York with teachers
including Frank DuMond, Francis Mora, Harvey Dunn and Birger Sandzen.
