Biography William Bailey Faxon
A painter of figures and landscapes, William Faxon lived in Hartford, Connecticut and New York City where he was an exhibitor at the National Academy of Design* six times between 1883 and 1891. He was a close friend of the Flagg family of artists from Hartford---George, Jared and Charles---and accompanied Charles to Paris in 1872 as well as another Hartford artist, Dwight Tryon. Like Charles Flagg, he studied with Louis Jacquesson de la Cheuveuse. In 1876, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts*, and remained in Paris for several more years.
From 1895 to 1920, Faxon was treasurer of the Artists Aid Society. He was also treasurer of the American Fine Arts Society* from its founding, and in 1906 became Preside
