William F. Stone, Jr. was born in Oakland, California on September 11, 1929. Living in that area in his early years, he settled on the Monterey Peninsula in 1956. He now resides in the California Coastal community of Pacific Grove. Stone, primarily a watercolorist, is known for his California landscapes and coastal images painted in a unique, almost abstract, style.
Stone studied at the University of California, Berkeley (B.A.). He also studied at the School of Medical Illustration in Boston, Massachusetts. Later he earned a Teaching Credential from San Jose State University.
