A painter and printmaker, he was born in Stuttgart, Germany on September 8, 1883. Rauschnabel immigrated to California in 1905. Initially, he lived in San Francisco but by 1915 had moved across the Bay to Marin County. He served as head of the art department at the College of Marin during the last 20 years of his life. Rauschnabel died in Sierra City, California on June 30, 1947. His work includes landscapes in oil and watercolor as well as wood block prints.
