William George Williams

Biography William George Williams
During the 1830s and 1840s, William George Williams worked for the US Army on surveying canal routes and harbor installations on the Great Lakes and elsewhere. He was chief of engineers under General Taylor during the Mexican War and was killed at the Battle of Monterey.
He was a graduate of West Point in 1824 and an honorary member of the National Academy of Design in New York City. He exhibited portraits paintings there in 1840 and 1843 to 45.
