Biography William Hanington
William J. Hanington and his brother Henry Hanington began as commercial
artists in New York City about 1832. Eventually they produced and
exhibited all over the country a large number of spectacular moving
dioramas on such subjects as The Deluge, Conflagration of Moscow, New York Fire of Dec. 16, 1835, Stellar Universe, a moving telescopic diorama, The Creation and Crimean War. Venues for their dioramas between 1832 and 1856 included New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Charleston, New Orleans and Cincinnati.
