Born in Chicago, IL on Dec. 7, 1905. Justema appears to have moved to San Francisco at an early age. After spending several years as a monk in a monastery in Oregon, he studied art under Xavier Martinez and Stanton MacDonald-Wright. For 40 years he designed wallpapers and fabrics for the home furnishing industry. A modernist, his painting style evolved into what he called "magic realism." He died in San Francisco on Jan. 7, 1987. Exh: Courvoisier Gallery (SF), 1930; Oakland Art Gallery, 1932.
