William Riddle Warner was born on October 9, 1884 in Collingwood, Ontario (Canada) and died at age 62 on March 2, 1947 at the Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital in the Piños Altos mountains near Silver City, New Mexico..
He moved with a brother from Canada to the northeastern U.S. as a young man, married Sarah White (presumably from Wilmington, Delaware) in 1915, and entered the federal Indian Service soon after. His job relocated him to the southwest's two new states admitted in 1912. His work in Arizona and New Mexico was interrupted when the U.S. entered World War 1 in 1917.
