Born in Chicago, IL in 1919. At age ten Hurtz began studying at the AIC. In 1932 he moved to Los Angeles and continued at Chouinard Art Institute. He began working for Disney Studios in 1939 on "Fantasia" and about 1946 was a cofounder of the animation studio, United Productions of America. Hurtz died in Los Angeles on Oct. 14, 2000.
