Born in Chicago, IL on March 21, 1877. Riddell began his art studies at the AIC and continued in Paris at Académie Julian under Constant and Laurens. He was in San Francisco in 1901 and active in Chicago until the mid-1920s when he settled in Laguna Beach where he was twice elected president of the local art association.
