Worth Ryder was born in Kirkwood, Illinois on November 10, 1884. Ryder studied at University of California at Berkeley, Art Students League in New York City (1906-08), and in Munich at the Hans Hofmann School and the Royal Bavarian Academy. During 1917-18 he was director of the Oakland Art Gallery and professor of art at University of California from 1926-55.
A resident of Berkeley for most of his life, he died there on February17, 1960.
