Xantippe, or Tip as she liked to be called was a Louisville portrait painter and teacher of art. Tip also showed artistic talent early. She had studied art in Louisville under Professor Cornelius Pering, who ran an art school in Louisville for many years. His daughter, Cornelia Pering, also artistic, was a pupil in the school, and the two girls began a life-ling friendship.
Tip went on to New York, where she studied under Lemuel Everett Wilmarth and in the studio of Joseph O.Eaton.
In the early 1880's she and Cornelia opened an art school in Louisville and maintained it for over 20 years. Miss Tip's special
