Born on March 12, 1900 in Wakayama, Japan, Yuzuru Sugimoto sailed to
California in 1919 and settled in Hanford. He studied at UC
Berkeley, the California School of Fine Art, California College of Arts
and Crafts, and from 1929-31 at Académie Colarossi in Paris.
He lived in Hanford until interned with other Japanese during
WWII. After the war he settled in New York City where he remained
until his demise on May 8, 1990.
