Biography Zofia Stryjenska
Zofia Stryjenska – a Polish female painter, illustrator and stage designer – was one of the most vivid artists of Poland’s 20 years of independance after WW I. After she had shortly learnt in Cracow’s schools for female artists, she left for Munich where in a male disguise, using her brother’s passport, was studying in 1911 – 1912. She came out in 1912 in the Cracow’s Fine Arts Society with a series of works based upon Polish folk tales. Stryjenska became internationally famous in 1925 at the Decorative Art Exhibition of Paris where she displayed six huge panneaux symbolizing months.
