John Blomshield was an American artist best known for his drawing of Ernest Hemingway that appeared on the inside cover of Hemingway's book The Sun Also Rises. Bob and Muriel Hemingway became friends with John Blomshield in Paris in 1925. He did drawings of them both.
The drawing has been described as "obscure" and Blomshield described as a "shadowy figure" (Voss, 20) who trained in New York City at the Art Students League and who went to Europe about 1923. During is two or three year stay there, he did some writing on early Italian Renaissance art and architecture for Arts magazine.
