Biography John Charry
After retiring in 1974 from teaching at Mercer County Community College
in Trenton, NJ, John Charry lived in Vermont with his wife, Jane Charry.
His works are crafted in wood, with the occasional use of terra
cotta and brass. He emphasized the natural shape and grain of the wood,
and used these characteristics to create a well balanced, harmonious
composition, whether a serving tray or an abstract sculpture.
primarily with walnut and cherry woods, carving them by hand and on a
lathe, he would finish with oil to emphasize the rhythm of the grain.
