William Vallance Gray was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1839. Gray was a resident of San Francisco at 906 Steiner Street by 1863. He was the artist of views published by Britton & Company and was a partner of Charles B. Gifford in a lithography firm. Primarily a lithographer, he also painted landscapes and portraits. He died in San Francisco in 1891.
