Merrill Wheelock

Merrill Greene Wheelock was active/lived in Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire.  Merrill Wheelock is known for landscape and watercolor portraits, illustration, architecture.

Biography   Merrill Wheelock


Merrill Wheelock was born in Calais, Vermont, but spent his professional career in Boston. He was an architect whose office was at 110 Washington Street in 1847, 5 1/2 Tremont Street in 1855, and at 292 Washington Street in 1860. He designed the New Masonic Temple in Boston in 1865, but fifteen years later a former curator at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts remarked of Wheelock that, "It will be better for his fame to know him by his paintings than by such architectural absurdities as the Masonic Temple."

From 1858 to 1861 Wheelock advertised himself as a painter of portraits in watercolor. All of the works now known to be by him are in watercolor. In 1859 he exhibited six landscapes at the B   ...  Displaying 750 of 2487 characters.
