The following information is provided by Abigail Lourie, daughter of the artist.

Painter, Print-maker, Teacher

Herbert S. Lourie grew up in Brookline MA and attended Indiana University before serving with the Infantry during WWII. Herbert was injured by shrapnel on 12/26/45 during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he studied art at Yale University earning a BFA in 1950 and an MFA in 1951.

He taught art at Nasson College, the University of New Hampshire, The University of Rhode Island, Elmira College, and Keene State College where he was Chair of the art department for five years. His works of art appeared in 36 gallery and museum exhibitions. He lived and taught in Keene from 1966 - 1981.
